One interpretation of this song is as a kind of dialogue between a couple, where the narrator is tired of the world, of struggling, iniquity, and chasing frivolous things and calls out saying that although the narrator doesn’t believe they can make it to heaven alone, they still wish they could and is calling on their lover to help them.
