The story begins with Kevin O'Toole and Patrick Jensen, who met on a Primus message board. Kevin played drums and Patrick played bass and guitar. They started creating songs by recording themselves and sending pieces of the song to each other. Eventually Patrick shared these recordings with his friend James Manning and asked him to join the band. Manning had just begun writing poetry, and thought he could give singing a shot.
