If you think the message of this song is "God is good," you're really, really bad at analyzing lyrics / don't know anything about sarcasm / Sam Beam.

Papa died smiling Wide as the ring of a bell Gone all star white Small as a wish in a well And Sodom, South Georgia Woke like a tree full of bees Buried in Christmas Bows and a blanket of weeds Papa died Sunday and I understood All dead white boys say, "God is good" White tongues hang out, "God is good" Papa died while my Girl Lady Edith was born Both heads fell like Eyes on a crack in the door And Sodom, South Georgia Slept on an acre of bones Slept through Christmas Slept like a bucket of snow Papa died Sunday and I understood All dead white boys say, "God is good" White tongues hang out, "God is good" I think there is a touch of racial history referring o S Georgia, civil war?

nice insight perfecteye. You mean, like, "white tongues hang out" is speaking about receiving the holy sacrament?

nahh, Im not gonna put out a statement on the meaning of the whole song, but nate, when he says all the dead white boys say god is good hes speaking of the hypocrisy and religous confinement that was present during the civil war. "white tongues hang out" is there too, you can figure that one out. yet the boys are dead from their own countrymen they still stick by their deity in saying hes in control

Someone asked what this song is about. Of course I don't know officially and it can open to interpretation as well, but I think it has something to do with people seeing death as a sad or ugly thing, when it's actually beautiful, or at least good. Hence the line "all DEAD white boys say, God is good"
