artists should get their (our) priorities straight and reunite with their bands for the sake of fine scrobbling, as Selena Gomez getting back together with The Scene + MARINA reconciling with her diamonds 💎🙏

idk why night call has so much hate. For me, it is even better than palo santo. It reminds me a lot of communion, I honestly love it

"Night Call" is an album that lacks memorable lyrics and melodies. Some of the songs sound like a MIDI composition with quickly jotted down lyrics. We loved Y&Y because of the "sad happy" emotions they invoked with "Communion", however, "Palo Santo" and "Night Call" are just "Look, I'm queer, be thankful for artists like me." Next.

the first good song (to me) being 5 songs in didn't help my initial impression much, but this is sounds more y&y than i initially assumed. it's just not a step forward and largely wonky, which is a shame... as a reboot/rebrand record it's a lot safer than it had to be. plus the "new year edition" having all the old hits tacked on REALLY won't help matters to some people lol

btw i'm not really mad at him. this really just looks like a conflict of interest (he wanted the regular popstar route which emre / mikey evidently didn't want - plus so much of palo santo featured other producers already) moreso than olly being an asshole. most of the grievances just wouldn't exist if the music banged, which it doesn't. that's really the only relevant part here

During the making of Palo Santo, Olly and the other guys had disagreements about how their music should sound and rather than work out their issues he just flew out to LA to work with outside producers and songwriters without them. He still let them play instruments on some of the songs he wrote without them (and IMO their playing makes a real difference) but they had almost no writing input. Then after that album Y&Y did a bunch of loose singles and collabs that didn't involve the other two guys at all, and finally they were officially out of the band as of this new album because once again they couldn't agree on what kind of music to make so Olly just made it all without them.

TBH looking at the Palo Santo credits and how they conducted their interviews, it was already clear that they were breaking up.
