Wow I just discovered "The Letter" is probably their less impressive song. At least the rest of Texas Gold sounded better to me.

The Asleep at the Wheel concert was last night--a National Treasure you can still see--a showcase of the best western, cowboy and Texas swing for the past 80 years. They now have a tenor, fiddle and mandolin player, Eddie Rivers, who makes no bones about doing Bob Wills perfectly, and Elizabeth McQueen, singer and old school hollow-body rhythm guitar player with a lot of spunk and personality. I could go on and on - the piano player Dan Walton, from Portland no less, who has the really old style of tickling the keys with nearly imperceptible hand movement--straight-backed in suit and bowler hat and a very distinguished pedal steel player, Bobby Black. Ray Benson, the founder and front man who at about 6'7" seems to tower over a toy guitar still has a great baritone and quick licks. I had first seen them opening for Willie and Commander Cody in the early 70s, then thought, "That can't be right. That's 40 years ago." But it is. Those were their first tours. Don't miss them!
