“The Hillbillies” is a collaboration between Baby Keem and Kendrick Lamar on which they go back and forth, comparing themselves to Neymar and Messi respectively. The cousins rap about designer clothes, women, and their fame over an upbeat, Jersey club-inspired sample of Bon Iver’s “PDLIF”, courtesy of SURF GANG producer EVILGIANE.
The song marks Kendrick’s second high-profile collaboration of 2023 following “AMERICA HAS A PROBLEM” with Beyoncé.
The song was unexpectedly released on the pgLang YouTube channel on 30 May 2023 alongside a music video directed by Neal Farmer.
The track was brought to streaming services a week later on 5 June 2023.
