(7/4/07): “We used to not play Apple Orchard first because we felt it was better to save it as kind of a surprise but now it’s become sort of like, for right now…because we have a new album almost completely written that we’re not revealing, but for right now it’s the definitive song for the first record, so we feel like when we open with that it’s just like, whatever, we’re playing it first. It was also one of the first songs I ever wrote on that keyboard.” ~ Victoria, Utopia of The Tired Man
(4/4/08): One listener obviously can’t get enough, describing their experience of ‘Apple Orchard’ with eccentric colour: “It’s like eating a sunbeam with your ears, it’s like having honey drip over your internal organs, this song is so great.” Victoria is instantly taken aback as I read her this touching tribute. “I’ve never heard anything like that before! That’s really neat, it means that the words are having an effect on people’s imagination. That’s just going to breed more weird stuff! Our Myspace page says, ‘visual/visual/visual’. That’s not a joke, it’s very real. We want our music to feel intense like syrup, very visceral.” ~ Victoria, Cyclic Defrost
(8/2/08): “It was pretty surprising. The label who put us out was really tiny and didn’t have any bands who had a national profile. It was just something we recorded on a whim, two people in Baltimore passed it to the guy who put it out. It was something which felt really natural. It was right around the time that people were saying you can use the internet for everything.” ~ Alex, The Lumière Reader
