if i had a genius account, i'd probably post on there to point out that the coming shift in the weather, from verse 2 to verse 3, symbolizes the relationship losing its luster. it's fantastic because the detail about the sunlight in verse 2 seems superfluous (although a nice bit of scenery) at first, but in the end it's the framework for the entire song...and underscores how arbitrary his change in feelings really is

granted, as great as it felt as a teenager (and it is good in its own right), i do wish now that the "rock" section didn't rock (like other popular ballads in the early '00s — e.g. "island in the sun"). do any death cab fans know of the best version of this song that keeps the same arrangement throughout?

I'm convinced that Weird Al just took this song's lyrics and made them funny when he wrote "Close But No Cigar"

I think about the title of this song every time I see a beautiful woman. I like to think it's a lesson that states that just because someone is attractive, doesn't mean you have to fall in love with them. It's helped quite immensely.

This song always gives me the feels. Always. Transatlanticism is one of my favorite albums ever.

I've never given this album much play over the years. And I'm a pretty big fan of Death Cab. This song is amazing. Growing on me so much : )

No song has hit me as hard as Tiny Vessels has. It's just so.. honest and doesn't sugar-coat anything about an emotion that's rarely sung about. To look back on a relationship and suddenly realize you felt the exact same way is breathtaking.
