It hurts me so much that Elbow has never returned to the sound of Asleep in the back later in their incredibly successful career. Their debut is mature enough and so diverse that it just blows away.

Songs like Red & Powder Blue have the atmosphere, that I actually miss in their new songs :-(

Their best album and most experimental. Even though it isn't really experimental at all compared to lots of other stuff, I just like the eerie atmosphere to this album, so dark and creepy. And the drums on this album are the best off of any Elbow album.

The album that got me into Elbow. I like the contrasting dynamics (see Newborn) and the flurries of clean, acoustic and distorted guitar. Very layered and mature for a debut release.

:-( i recently found out that I have the album [album artist=Elbow]Asleep in the Back[/album] without the title track (!!!!! grrrrrr). AND I REFUSE TO BUY THE ALBUM AGAIN. so, eh, hm, if someone has that song, Flac, 320 or high vbr, would be pretty awesome. Yes, I already stumbled through the net, downloads u find doesnt contain the title track, although it appears so. (i wonder if i just broke some essential last.fm rulez...)

For some reason I find Newborn a somewhat irritating song. Asleep in the Back or Powder Blue or Red are way better I think.

Newborn, Powder Blue, Any Day Now ...i didn't go for any of their other albums. If you like this moodyness but aint scared by some weighty tunes too, try out Oceansize: Effloresce

this is a very good new acoustic movement album, with a classic feel all over it.. . my favorite would be newborn, but red and powder blue are good as well!
