Biography

JANNABI are a South Korean indie rock band whose core members consist of vocalist Choi Jung-hoon and guitarist Kim Do-hyung. Formed in 2012, the band debuted in 2014 under the independent record label Peponi Music. Originally a quintet, the band has undergone several lineup changes, with Choi and Kim remaining the only constant members and songwriters since their inception. Currently, the duo has expanded to include session musicians for live performances, as well as studio recordings.

They are recognized for their live performances and self-produced songs infused with poetic Korean lyricism. Though their sound has diversified throughout their career, their music is characterized by a fusion of pop, rock, baroque and chamber pop, psychedelic and classical music elements with nostalgic overtones. Their songwriting is often inspired by personal experiences and literature, mostly focusing on themes of youth and coming of age.

The members are armed with both mischievous and sentimental qualities, and they pleasantly surprise listeners with their diverse musicality. Despite trends, they highlight the beauty of old pop, offering a stylistic shift to the Korean music scene.
