Good music, such as this, progressively becomes better with time, the more you listen to it, the more you are able appreciate the subtleties, themes and layers. Mediocre, run of the mill music doesn't have that characteristic. It wears thin easily. So, while the quality of music is subjective, there still exists a lot of objectivity, and it's very lazy to dismiss any argument on musical superiority by "It's all subjective". No, it's f##king not.

I'm just not feeling like taking any arguments on 'musical superiority' from someone afraid to say fuck today.

kill me, I didn't even know who Danny Brown was, and thought he was some obscure blues/rock artist from the 50s

Same. What an album opener this is. Disorder starts hard and fast on their previous album, but this one just seems so much more deliberate and morose, in a good way.

Some trivia: Peter Hook later complained that the track "Atrocity Exhibition" was mixed on one of his days off, and when he heard the final product was disappointed that the abrasiveness of his guitar part had been laden with effects and toned down. He wrote; "I was like, head in hands, oh fucking hell, it's happening again. Unknown Pleasures number two ... Martin [Hannett] had melted the guitar with his Marshall Time Waster. Made it sound like somebody strangling a cat, and to my mind, absolutely killed the song. I was so annoyed with him and went in and gave him a piece of my mind but he just turned around and told me to fuck off." (according to Wikipedia and its sources).

Interestingly i like it the way it is. But musicians, naturally, have a different view of things on their own songs.

The first Joy Division song that really grabbed me, and one that has remained among my very favorites. The lyrics and the way Ian delivers them are fantastic, dark and evocative, and the drumming is some of the best you'll ever hear. Reminds me of Jaki Liebezeit from Can, in a way.
