'New Dawn Fades' is the fifth song on English rock/ post-punk band Joy Division from their 1979 debut 'Unknown Pleasures'. It opens with a backwards and heavily modified sample from 'Insight', thought to be added by producer Martin Hannett. It relies on an ascending riff from guitarist Bernard Summer vs. a descending riff from bassist Peter Hook. It's also one of few Joy Division songs with two distinct guitars playing, one distorted and one a clean electric guitar picking notes from the guitar chords. It then ends with a guitar solo.
It also closes side one of Unknown Pleasures.

The song lasts 4 minutes and 47 seconds.
Recorded from April 1st - April 17th 1979.
It was recorded in Strawberry Studios in England.
Producers are credited as Martin Hannett and all the members of Joy Division.
Songwriters are all the four members of Joy Division (Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, Stephen Morris, Ian Curtis)
