The days when you would buy a CD and listen to it over & over while avidly poring over the lyrics in the booklet, decoding all their mysteries and metaphors ❤

In my opinion, Coney Island Baby. And I think I'd probably put The Blue Mask ahead of this one too, if only because it's a bit more focused/streamlined. But he's got so many great albums that that answer's gonna vary a lot from person to person.

I've never been able to get into this one too much. I think it's a good album and lyrically it's certainly something to behold but I just don't enjoy listening to it too much, and this is coming from a guy who holds Lou's solo career in very high regard. Give me New Sensations over this one any day.

It's like what my painter friend Donald said to me ***Stick a fork in their ass and turn them over, they're done***

One of the best conceptual albums (books) of all times. Comparable to some Pink Floyd achievements.

my dad tried to get me into lou reed, recommending me transformer. i listened to it and it was ok, but i didn't go much further than that. then, months later, we were sitting in a cafe by the cinema and they were playing lou reed. so i asked my dad if this was lou reed and if yes, which album. he told me it was called new york and about a week later i bought the album :) <3

Imoh the best album of/for the 80th. The musical and lyrical recapitulatin of a decade.

I agree with safe-as-milk and vigimael, especially vigimael's comment that this has the more mature sound. New York has much more depth than Transformer. While still being a decent album, Transformer is probably a bit poppy for my tastes, especially when compared to this album. New York is definitely my favourite Lou Reed record!

The track titles on this really need to be fixed. We know it's from the LP... don't we? Is that why this album isn't getting scrobbed? Annoying.
