Probably the best band representing the third and last wave of goth rock (2000-2020). Merciful Nuns is one of the bands that are faithful to a historical style and stay true to the genre regardless of the stereotypes or fashion of the past decade

Thelema VIII, a masterpiece out of time while The Sisters and The Nephilims are in absentia.

The only band they remind me of is G.O.D. it's nothing new and nothing unique but very much atmospheric, the way good goth music should be, imho. As for the rip off stories, such a sad and silly approach, it's quite difficult these days to create a unique sound so practically everything could be considered a rip off of something else. I hear a lot of bands in their music, definitely SoM and FotN but also The Cure, Skeletal Family, Killing Joke, NIN even The Tea Party...and just a reminder because there are a lot of McCoy fans saying big words, when I first listened to FotN and was blown away, guess what, they were considered a bad SoM rip off... history repeats itself. Great Atmospheric Gothic Music thats what MN is!!

@ tadeox: Sisters of Mercy name is actually taken from Leonard Cohen's song so not really unique at all... and MN are not Sisters of Mercy ripoff as Eldritch mostly sings about girls which is quite boring after 3(sic!) albums. MN on their 6 albums were exploring magickal things Eldritch never heard of...

I tend to agree that it is generally a "cheap ripoff" as tadeox says, but ultimately, I don't give a fuck because it's not as if you're getting anything else from FOTN or Sisters at this point anyway for the most part. So, basically, if you enjoy the shit they've done, give Merciful Nuns a try. It's nothing spectacular or even good for that matter, but it just might tide you over. Or just throw on old FOTN / Sisters, which is what I generally do.

theres a reason to critizice: to point what deserves attention and to point what is merely a ripoff to sell records and make money. Feel free to think whatever you want, i am aswell free to expose what i please. Sorry i have more important things to do to keep replying, i just end with this thought: You [and mn apologizers] are free to drink a bourbon called 'Jim Daniels' and like it, but that will not change three facts: A)it still is a cheap ripoff, B)it's not even whisky and C)you need a lot of taste and experience to enjoy the original stuff.

Tadeox: i just think your attitude is unnecessary. As i said, if you don't like the band, there's no reason to come here. Many persons likes the band and your opinion will not change this. So, IMO, you just want to create intrigue. But yeah, if you want to stay and keep writing unnecessary things, you are free for that.

Tadeox: if you don't like Merciful Nuns or Artaud Seth is very simply, just don't hear their music. There's no need to come here and write about the band, take your opinion for yourself. As i said, is very simply like this. PS: sorry my bad english.

people that writes apologies for a rip-off trendy musician: well... Carl McCoy has been writing about ancient cultures, lovecraft mythology and magick WAY BEFORE before this clown. Eldritch MADE a sound many others -such as this one -copied; even the name 'Merciful Nuns' seems like a cheap parody of Sisters Of Mercy. Quantity doesn't mean Quality: Seth made the same dull record a dozen times -at least it sounded so- when he was impersonating Carl McCoy, and now he will do the same as a AE clone.

People say that G.O.D. and Merciful Nuns are S.O.M and FOTN ripoffs... Well Seth writes about things mr Eldritch probably never heard of and they release records twice a year not like every 10 years like FOTN. Apart from that, they dig deeper in ancient cultures, occult and magick then most Goth bands combined.

Wow, Merciful Nuns sounds more like Garden Of Delight than Garden of Delight themselves lately. Welcome back, Artaud!

I love this band!!! I was completely enthralled when I first listened to Nunhood and Temple of Hadit. I love how their music is mainly about Thelema. It kind of reminds of when Fields of The Nephilim made their songs "Love Under Will", "Power". "Moonchild","The Tower", etc. yet their sound reminds me just a tad bit of Sisters of Mercy mixed with & a faint hint of Type O Negative with the vocals and lots of deep sound.
