Biography
Michael James Way was born on September 10,1980 in Newark, New Jersey. He is currently bassist in punk-post-hardcore rock band My Chemical Romance. He grew up in Belleville, New Jersey alongside his older brother Gerard Way. He coined the name for the band My Chemical Romance from the Irvine Welsh book, "Ecstasy: Three Tales of a Chemical Romance". He discovered this book while he was working at a Barnes and Noble book store in the music section. He also got his brother Gerard a job there. Mikey learned how to play bass in order to become part of the band although in the "Life On The Murder Scene" DVD he claims he had been an amateur musician since he was young. Mikey can be seen playing his Highway 1 Precision Bass, a Fender Standard Precision Bass, and a Fender J. He is also known for his glasses that correct his nearsightedness but he recently had lasik eye surgery. Mikey has recently become engaged to Alicia Simmons and they have 2 cats(Bunny and Pumpkin). In '06 Mikey had to temporarily leave the band because of personal problems. He left the band to live with band attorney Stacey Fass where he saw a therapist four times a week. He was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. After several weeks he returned to the recording studio as a commuter. He is currently touring with My Chemical Romance at 27. He has recently married his finance Alicia Simmons on march 8th and was on temporary leave. He returned to the band Fall of 2008 in Mexico.
