Nelson Riddle was one of three composers to add jazz-elements into his arrangements. The other two being Lalo Schifrin, and Henry Mancini. His "Route 66 Theme" will always be a standout piece in my estimation. His prowess as an arranger is evident on his 'Sea of Dreams' album with the beautiful Diane Webber on the cover. Try "Easter Isle" from this album as a sampling. Riddle was no stranger to motion-picture soundtracks either: "El Dorado" immediately comes to mind, and Frank Sinatra's "Come Blow Your Horn". Nelson was no stranger to bossa nova either. I found a jewel on his "Changing Colors" album from 1971 entitled: "Lamento". He conducted the 101 Strings studio orchestra with equal-style on "Latino Sentimental". If you didn't know better, it could have been arranged by Schifrin for a movie shot. Nelson Riddle was truly a legend! Peace friend.
