Esta es la historia de una banda de rock boricua. Luego de ser finalista en la Primera Competencia de Rock Nacional Puertorriqueño en 1989, y tener varios cambios de personal y nombre, 9VIDAS aparece en 1995. La banda, compuesta por José Vázquez (guit), Sidney Mangual (voz, guit), Pedro Pizarro (bajo) y Javier Aponte (batería), mostró muchas facetas, desde 'grunge' hasta acústico, desde rock alternativo hasta 'indie' con una influencia principalmente anglosajona. El componer fue siempre un proceso colaborativo y sus canciones reflexionan sobre la vida, el amor, política, el ambiente y espiritualidad. En sus sobre 15 años de trayectoria, 9V lanzó tres discos: NADIE NOS QUIERE (1995), 9VPH (2001) y MUSICA PARA DUMBOS (2005). NADIE fue nominado como Mejor Album Rock en el 2do Premios Tu Música, 9VPH (producido por Yamil Martinez, quien colaboró con Ricky Martin) fue un disco elaborado, y más que una ampliación de su vocabulario musical, una síntesis de algunas de sus influencias. Finalmente, DUMBOS, auto-producido y grabado, fue calificado como un maduro album de pop-rock moderno y selecionado como uno de los más relevantes del 2006 por Frecuencias Alternas, uno de los pocos programas existentes en Puerto Rico dedicado al movimiento musical subterráneo. Luego de DUMBOS, la banda decide tomarse un descanso. Con esto, en octubre 2006, 9V dijo "hasta luego" a sus fans, mientras los integrantes han continuado en proyectos alternos, José con RADIOLA y Sidney, Javier y Pedro con EVOLUZ. Pero, mantienen la "puerta abierta" para una reunión futura. ¿Sucederá?
This is the story of a puertorican rock band. After being finalist in Puerto Rico's first National Rock Competition in 1989, and undergoing some personnel and name changes, 9VIDAS came to the spotlight in 1995. The band, comprised by Jose Vázquez (guitar), Sidney Mangual (vox, guitar), Pedro Pizarro (bass) and Javier Aponte (drums), showed many faces, from grunge to acoustic to alt-rock to indie with mainly North American influences. Songwriting was always a collaborative process and their songs mused about life, love, politics, the environment and spirituality. In its 15+ year span, 9V released three albums: NADIE NOS QUIERE (1995), 9VPH (2001) and MUSICA PARA DUMBOS (2005). NADIE was nominated for "Best Rock Album" in the 2nd Annual "Tu Musica Awards", 9VPH (produced by Yamil Martinez, who worked with Ricky Martin) was an elaborate album, and besides an enlargement of their musical vocabulary, a synthesis of some of their influences. Finally, DUMBOS, self produced and recorded, was regarded as a very mature modern pop-rock album and voted among 2006's Most Relevant Releases by Frecuencias Alternas, one of the few radio shows left in Puerto Rico devoted to the underground music movement. After DUMBOS, the band decided to take a break. With that, in October 2006, 9V said "farewell" to their fans, meanwhile the members continued with side projects that are currently undergoing, Jose with RADIOLA and Sidney, Javier and Pedro with EVOLUZ. But, they have kept "the door open" for a future reunion. Will it happen?
