Ah, but two can play that game. Two off the top of my head who are criminally unknown to broader audiences are Ashrae Fax and the Difference Engine. Ashrae Fax (synthy post punk - think early New Order meets Cocteau Twins) had a brief moment - ironically, 10 years after they were effectively broken up - when Mexican Summer remastered an album of theirs. The vocals alone - their power and range - of Ashrae Fax should have given a solid footing in the popular imagination. That reissue led to them finishing an album they had scrapped, which was also excellent. Difference Engine (shoegaze-ish) is a longer story, but they had a cult classic, Breadmaker, reissued by Saint Marie, and a "lost" album from the 90s, Flex Lavender, that only just dropped digitally last fall.

Found The New Romance for a dollar at a thrift shop, money well spent. Didn't know the band before that but something about it made me know I needed to get it.

I drove from Biloxi, MS to Tulsa, OK to see them on Halloween night of their final tour. Their van broke down and they didn't show. I'm still not over it.

I was listening carefully to Good Health I found there's a big Post-hardcore influence.

Oh my God, I used to love this band when I was fourteen. They still hold up pretty well.

Glitchface was actually 9yo in 2003. How it is she's 22 now is anyone's guess.
