Biography
Psylab is a collective of live electronic musicians, hailing from Boston, MA. Psylab creates a style of music that reflects modern "BPM" and breakbeat-style electronic dance music; yet does not employ the use of sequencers or automated looping. The foundations of their music lie under the vast umbrella of "Electronic Dance Music", but gravitate specifically towards psy-trance, dubstep, minimal tech, drum'n'bass, dub, downtempo and house.
As opposed to following a setlist, Psylab creates music spontaneously and in accordance with the nature of the event and the tone of the room. Their 'play-for-the-moment' mentality yields a unique performance in which no two sets are ever alike. Psylab's musical sets reflect a DJ's approach, in that they tend to continue the flow of music throughout their performance. The band will occasionally drop into ambient interludes in order to segue into a different style or tempo. Psylab tends to perform more frequently at DJ-oriented events, and will typically segue from the DJ's set by matching the track in real-time, layer by layer, so that as the DJ fades out, a seamless transition is created as the groove is replicated and interpreted by Psylab.
