Even after about 100 listens, I still fail to get into 'Spiderland'... Unlike 'Tweez', which I absolutely love - it definitely grew on me faster

Yeah, apparently a lot background noises on this record are taken from home recordings of Slint's band members blowin' air out of their butts; pretty gross, but pretty gnarly not gonna lie. It was confirmed by Britt Walford and David Pajo in the documentary "Breadcumb Trail," which is about the band and its history--I would recommend it if your interested. Also sorry for replying to you way after the fact. :)

Here to remind people it is possible to love and appreciate two albums at once for two reasons. I get Spiderland has historical importance, but this album is awesome in it's own right on it's own terms. Tracks like Carol and Kent in particular (for me) absolutely bang. Love and appreciation for Tweez and what it does, and nah that doesn't mean I think Spiderland is boring.

really shouldn't even be compared to spiderland beyond being by the same band imo, they're completely different in almost every other regard. comparing the two musically does tweez a disservice because it is a very good album on it's own but kind of suffers from successful-sibling syndrome

While I don't think this is nearly as good as Spiderland, this is still a really excellent and creative record. Super underrated IMHO!

Giving this a listen for the first time right now. I think it's irrelevant if Tweez is better or worse than Spiderland, both LPs sound so different from each other that the comparison isn't really that fair. I love the noise and aggression of this one, it sounds like Discipline-era King Crimson on crack mixed with Big Black, but I also love the spooky atmosphere of Spiderland.

v It's definitely a lot more concise though to be fair, coming in at less than a half hour with 9 songs.
