Something odd happened to me last weekend. While visiting someone in Manchester, I suffered from light insomnia due to too much caffeine and her blanket being too warm. I didn't want to wake her, so at 5am, I just put on Symbol on Spotify and listened to it on my earbuds while still in bed. It's such a great album for calming down. I soon felt blissfull and relaxed. Something about these classical samples and the ethereal album cover just makes me feel like I'm being taken care of by friendly nature spirits. Finally, we got up, grabbed some food and went to Manchester Art Gallery, which both of us hadn't visited before. And there, suddenly, I found myself in front of the painting Hylas and the Nymphs by J.W. Waterhouse, which the album cover is extracted from. Obviously, a pure coincidence, but somehow it gave me chills and and I lost myself staring at the painting for a moment. I empathized with Hylas, who probably felt that everything was going to be alright as he was abducted.

A bold statement, but this album was my gateway to all Japanese music when I look back on it now. Not only is it a masterpiece, but for me it also paved the way to other masterpieces.
