If Jim Morrison didn't die, and The Doors made a Middle Eastern-influenced alt/prog rock band, it would've been The Tea Party.

No no, it's just the fact that kpop is as much "strange" for me as The Tea Party for you ;)

I've been listening to The Tea Party since the late 90s and Kpop for about 5 years or so. I never would have thought anything could link those two worlds but here we are :D

The air carries motes of sand. The sun is burning high. The bazzar seems like a colorful ant nest, swarming with loud merchants selling exotic wares, and elegant women, dressed in sheer dresses, carrying baskets of dates. The man also known as Jeff Martin sits by the snake charmer. Hidden behind the thick smoke of the hookah, he waits to get dark. He picks up his guitar and turns the lamb down low. There, at the edges of twilight, he begins to sing. Magic.

Совершенно удивительный коктейль из прогрессивного рока, альтернативы, фолка, индийских мотивов, да ещё и с реинкарнированным Джимом Моррисоном на вокале.

His experiments with open tunings always remind me Jimmy Page, same level of creativity.

Their self-titled demo album is better than I thought it'd be...far less lo-fi than many were saying on the internet. Then again, maybe I just needed a break from brickwalled metal...this band is perfect for that.

Hmm, I'll give the full album a shot then. Just glad they came back, honestly.

I know it's delirious for me to wish them to come to Mexico, but if I could be granted with a wish, that would be it; I've listened to this band for quite some time... I hope they continue to make music, I dream of an album so acoustic and delicious as their Alhambra sessions.

New album works better as a whole I find, but isn't their strongest, or weakest work. Saw them at the Commodore Ballroom on December 10th and they rocked that show hard. So glad I got to see them live.

Decided to listen to the title track from Ocean at the End, suspecting it'd be the most progressive...I don't know what 'it' is, but they just don't have what made their middle period albums interesting anymore. The Armada and Jeff martin's solo material rock, so I don't know what it is that's so lacking about what I've heard from the new album.

@Kemendil I consider them progressive because of the wide range of genres they fuse...it's closer to the more traditional term progressive rock than nowadays. Most progressive rock lacks aggressive parts for dynamics that The Tea party have, but beyond that, I think all the eastern ethnic folk influence makes them pretty damn progressive, even if they play entirely in 4/4. They go between instruments quite a bit as well on songs like Sister Awake.

Giving the album its 3rd listen through right now... it's definitely growing on me! I think an album generally takes about 5-7 listens before you can properly review it, but so far it seems solid. So glad to have the boys back!

Why does the word prog appear so often in relation to The Tea Party? They are a lot closer to bands like Led Zeppelin and The Doors than to Pink Floyd and Genesis, for example. Just because they are more diverse and not as cheesy as the average rock band, doesn't mean they are progressive rock. (For the record, I don't like prog very much, but I love The Tea Party.) Anyway, I'm now listening to the new album and it's good. I can't say much more yet, but I think it was worth the long wait. I am on Submission right now and the Gary Numan vs The Tea Party vibe I get is awesome.

Highly disappointed in the new single, I like their more progressive/ethnic side vastly more...just kinda bland outside of the lyrics.

Can't wait! Can't wait! Can't wait! I think Jeff Martin 777's "The Ground Cries Out" better than all The Tea Party stuff after "The Edges Of Twilight". if they continue in the same direction, new album's gonna be great!
