Languages are among the most underestimated subjects overall, I think. And I'm pretty sure a lot of people leave disappointed at the lack of anime in the coursework, heh.

Out of the 150 first years that started at the same time as I did, 60 were left by the time the second semester rolled along. I'm certain it'll happen.

That statement sounds like an exercise in being wrong in every way possible. Kind of worrying even. In my experience, that type tends to quit the course after 6 months max, so I doubt they'll be at it for long.

There is a lot of pent-up xenophobia in Japan though, though many wouldn't say it quite out loud, I'm pretty sure that a lot of schools or parents in Japan wouldn't want a foreigner near their kids. Japan doesn't actually have a demand of English teachers at all, I reckon, it's just that the ones they have right now aren't very good ;)

I'm not sure if it's legitimately a meme, but I was jokingly saying that because most people I studied with in uni said the same thing. I wonder how that idea came to be, it can't be that easy to get a teaching job in Japan, not with the way they distrust foreigners.

Well there's still a lot of time to figure that out. Besides, if all else fails you can always go to Japan and get a job teaching english to children ;)

Being that young didn't do much more than make everything awkward. What kind of self-employment were you thinking of?

In today's work market, every age is having trouble finding work anyway. I was 15 when I started uni and that didn't do me anything good either, though that'd another story. And most Japanology first years were well in their 20s too, most of them having tried another subject before and deciding to switch halfway. Must be something about the subject that attracts former math/medicine/law students, I'm not sure.

Not entirely sure how pop music criticism is related to all this, heh. So it's kind of like a preparation year? It does seem like a pretty good way to get students used to the way things work at uni more smoothly, at least.

oh whoops, my bad, I guess I jumped to conclusions there. Learning Japanese is very rewarding. I've always loved languages anyway, I'd have loved to pursue further into the field of linguistics for example.

wow you're not even buying girl's clothes what kind of weeb are you? I have a fair amount of japanese-language manga I bought in Japan, and I could read it because I went on to study japanese at uni for three years, but I went and became a hikki the past two years so my level dropped ;_;

I'd buy more physical volumes too but the selection here in the Netherlands isn't that good, and I never get around to ordering things online. I always spend my money on other things.

haven't been able to get into any series lately, to be honest. I still read manga but I don't seem to have the patience for anime nowadays. the fact I can't listen to music while I watch might be a factor too.

And anime music allows me to keep my weeb cred alive without actually having to watch anime, so that's a plus too

kpoppy, huh? seeing what singles you listen to, i can kind of see what you mean. if you're not really into their current sound then i suggest looking into their 2011 and 2012 singles before they made a shift into edm-style music

The lineup did change a bit, yeah. They've gone from 6->9 members. Unfortunately I have a sinking feeling that the two longest standing members are graduating soon, though :(

akb is okay, i guess, but it seems to be most people's gateway into idols... I prefer more sugary idol groups though, like denpagumi, prizmmy, and my favorite group s/mileage

drill-based electronics... speedcore? splittercore? hahahaha i remember that stuff... so idol groups... i recommend you start with accessible stuff like morning musume, denpagumi inc., akb48 and tokyo girls style
