Ah well, Asymmetry is an album that polarizes the listeners. I'm guessing maybe that was the intention of the band...It takes a couple of plays for the subtle complexities to slowly sink in. I had the same feeling at first, and then I just decided to patiently go with the flow. I saw the album in a whole new light after that (pun intended). It only gets better after every listen, like wine maybe? Haha... It's a difficult one to listen to, yes but it's just as good as the others. Give it some time, you might eventually like it. Just my two paise...it's not everyone's cup of tea, I guess... :-)

Yeah, I heard that their Delhi gig was awesome. They're a good live band...I've always listened to Karnivool in some form or another, but I became a proper fan after listening to their last album Asymmetry. It was soul-changing, no other album I've listened to has ever had that effect on me. Well, I have listened to a couple of Porcupine Tree tracks already...I wasn't much into it. Maybe, I should give it another try...

Now, I'm not a big fan of their vocal style, but Evoke Thy Lords has some really cool atmospheric stuff. Personal favourite of mine is the song "Dregs" off their "Drunken Tales" album. thought you might be interested.

Damn, Palefeather is worming its way in to my head further and further every day. Really appreciate that rec, I'll try to return the favour someday. It's my mission!

Always excited to hear something like Pink Floyd, I'll be sure to check it out. Thanks!

I suppose that might be the reason that they don't "grab attention" like those songs then. Either way, I've always liked to think that every member was important to Floyd, and I can't stand the Gilmour vs. Waters arguments people have. Would have been nice to have all four reunite one last time.

I enjoy it, but I'm gonna need more time to absorb it so I can put each tune to the song name. It's better than I feared (I suppose I should say "not as bad as..." but that makes it sound like I think it is unfavourable), but not as good as I had hoped. I feel as though the songs themselves are all mostly good, but nothing that really grabs your attention like Time, Echoes, WYWH, Comfortably Numb and so on. A good "goodbye" album for sure though. How do you find it?

You might like the album "Second Wind" by Fever Dog, it's definitely stoner rock, but with a twist I'm not sure what to call yet. Maybe space rock? Whatever, you decide: https://feverdog.bandcamp.com/

Also, while I am digging Marblewood, Sun of Man has a secret weapon. You can see that I love Pink Floyd, and SoM's song "Space" is the closest thing I've ever heard to Pink Floyd stoner rock. It's just so damn glorious.

Personally, I like Mania the most (it's their most experimental album), but the fan consensus is that Phi is the best with Gravity X as a very close second. All of the records are good, but Universe is definitely the weakest. I would probably start with Gravity X or Phi if I were you.

Looks like some good recommendations, I'll check em out tomorrow. Have you heard of Glowsun? I've just started listening to their album, "Eternal Season", and it has been growing on me very quickly.

Psychedelic AND free you say? I know what I'll be doing tomorrow! Thanks for the recommendations, and I'm glad you like King Buffalo. I can't wait for them to make a full length, assuming they do.

I also feel like I should mention that Desert Suns made their first release only a few days ago on the 16th. My personal favourite is "Run Through My Roots", but it's all good.

Besides King Buffalo, I found a very Black Sabbath-esque Stoner rock band called "Desert Suns", a German Instrumental Stoner band called "Mother Engine" and an interesting Stoner rock band named "Witchrider". Then there's all the space rock...

Yeah I really liked Bad Blood and Winter, so I'll give that one a listen soon. I'm hoping there's some more singing by the ghost of Jim Morrison hah.

There is a band that tours with All Them Witches, named "King Buffalo", and they're definitely worth checking out.

nuclear assault is one of my all time favorite bands :)) i'm so surprised you didn't like aspid! they remind me so much of sodom. i have never heard fog of war tho. is it new/old?

sounds like you've been listening to some great stuff! tbh, as of late i've mostly been on a progressive metal/rock + grunge kick. the what metal thread can get really really overwhelming. it's just so diverse... pretty hard to wrap your head around the entire thing. going back and trying to fill in whatever gaps i might have in my thrash collection. have you heard of Aspid? they're a russian thrash band. damn, i can't believe i'd never heard them in my life. they're fucking amazing. check out their only LP: "Кровоизлияние" if you haven't already heard it. soooooo great.

I wish I could be more helpful, but since i've been here i've had a hard time finding metal distros too, anyway cheers!

Hmmm, maybe Exodus but the only one I found didn't sell anything like Dead Congregation. You are probably better off ordering them online though anyway since the conversion rate to pounds makes everything more expensive anyway. Lots of good gigs in London though!

Hey, sorry for the late response. I actually have had a hard time finding some to be honest with you, but if you walk around Camden District it's fairly easy to find metal related stores. In the market I saw one metal merch store, but most metal related stuff is mostly sold at shows; what are you looking for exactly?

no i don't. :P it's not that i hate it, per se, it's that it's more of the same as the debut, but without a lot of the catchy riffs and tambourine break downs. first album is innovative and fun, Meir comes off as emulating and stale at times. but ok i'll listen to it right now. ^_^

no, I still need to. Thanks for the recommendation. I actually haven't checked out any of their discography. What are their best releases?

Yeah, I haven't been able to get the same bluesy stuff from anyone else, but Het Droste Effect is sorta like their style but they're all instrumental and space rock.

So far so good, changed the parameters and trying to change it so it doesn't have the same fate as the ExMF.

Hey I started a new group for music fanatics, the focus is going to be different than the ExMF and the frosty paradigm. It's a bit of an experiment but if a bunch of people get in it could be cool. Join if you are interested, cheers! http://www.last.fm/group/Unholy+Cult+of+the+Appraised+and+Damned
