nice charts. I read your comment on Sebadoh's Bakesale, and if it wasn't for your comment, I guess I will not be listening to the album this evening. Thank you.

Recently discovered Spy vs. Spy. Saw your post for Injustice. What a great song! Have to check your radio out.

Slowdive was great. i assumed you were aware of their US tour or i'd have mentioned it .... We're gonna win the division on the last week of the season, because ATL sports. And hopefully it's an 11-5 Seattle team that will have to come to the Dome for some postseason payback.

Well, I do like those bands you mentioned that they toured with. I don't like U2's music, like at all. I don't care who they inspired or what. There are so many bands that came before them or around that time that did it so much better. Their albums up through 1993 were good, I guess, but, eh... I'll take Echo & the Bunnymen for 'similar' music. Kind of like Built to Spill over Modest Mouse. I would be happy if Modest Mouse never existed, but I do tend to listen to them just to see why they are so popular with like-minded friends who have similar taste in music. Yeah, and they toured with one of my favorite bands, R.E.M., but that doesn't make me like M.M. anymore or any less. : )

I hate when people comment in their own comment boxes / "shoutboxes," but I just noticed that I have 3,915 loved tracks and 3,916 artists as of this very moment, right before I'm about to import a few various artists CDs. I'm sure those numbers shalt never again intersect... :/

Do you know the story about how Plexi disbanded? Any information I've read (though it's been several years since I looked, admittedly) has been really vague. Did any band members move on to other projects?

Thanks for the info about the song. I hadn't heard of Jandek before. I listened to the song on YouTube, but haven't found it for sale in digital form. Hope the summer in Louisiana hasn't been too cruel!

Yes, I'd heard from my sister how cool it was back home. After living through a few monsoon seasons in Thailand I decided to make a rain playlist, but haven't added any new songs in a long while. So how did your mix-CD turn out? We're you able to pare it down enough?

You might like the song "All The Best Dreams" By Codeseven. I never seem to get tired of that song. Not sure if you've ever heard it. My tracks stopped scrobbling because I upgraded to the latest version of Last.fm whilst still running 10.5.8. Whoops! What's your take on Dave Dupuis' new band Nightmare Air? Thought about seeing them tonight but decided against it.

That cassette collection made my jaw drop. Awesome stuff. Your mom is lucky to be its keeper. I probably have about the same amount, except that 90% of my collection is homemade: mix tapes, tapes of my favorite radio stations/shows, some "rock operas" my sister and I made, etc. I miss them terribly (I'm a dork). And I wasn't aware of that stripping scene, but I can definitely imagine someone stripping to that song!

wow, some great suggestions. this gvsb song is especially good. are you into the veldt at all? they released a great soul-inflected shoegaze album "afrodisiac" in the 90s. just got back together and touring again too.

P.S. You have 600+ cassettes? I think I have about the same amount. Next time I'm at my parents' house I'll count them and we can see who wins this contest. :-P

According to that link, there is a $100 rave going on right now. Anyway, thanks for the link, I will keep it for next time I'm over that way--still need to cross LA off my concert list. Oceansize and Sevendust were both great, but my #1 show ever was My Bloody Valentine. As for Animal Magnetism, the closest match that comes to my mind would be China White from 1982's Blackout, although it really isn't quite the same.

You have one of the most interesting last.fm profiles I've ever seen. Congratulations on being awesome. LOVED reading your list of favorite songs by year. So here's a question: do you have a favorite venue in Louisiana?

the plexi episode has probably been their best yet--if only because they managed to find two-thirds of a band that had seemingly fallen off the face of the earth for a decade. some other standouts are kent, jellyfish and chainsaw kittens though. not sure why i have so many artists? i do most of my listening in winamp to be honest. as someone who's probably worn out more copies of cheer up than me, what albums--if any--are out there similar to plexi? truly's fast stories is about as close as they come but not so much. lastly, do you happen to have any mp3s of cruelty to animals?

I think that playlist had the usual suspects - some NIN, PJ Harvey, that 'Trip Like I Do' song by Filter/The Crystal Method, the cliche "Hair of the Dog" by Nazareth... I'd never heard of Blouse until I read about them on your blog. I quite like "Into Black". Another one I read about on your blog was "Lately" by Memoryhouse. Really like that one. Early next month I'll be heading to Norway. Any songs I should check out while looking for the Northern Lights (and freezing to death)?

I like what I'm hearing of The Joy Formidable. "Whirring" is killer, although I think I like the album edit a bit more because of that double bass. Wasn't expecting that kind of ending to a sort of easygoing/catchy song. I'll definitely keep them on my radar. Thanks! I don't know if you know The Sounds (yeah, plural... I KNOW you know The Sound) but TJF kind of reminds me of them, although The Sounds are much more pop-oriented and synth-heavy.

GREAT list concept! I wonder how many songs out there have the band's name in the lyrics somewhere... I suppose that's too indulgent. Listening to Talk Normal now. A lot more accessible than I was expecting (which to me is a good thing... most of what I know of "no wave/noise rock" is Magik Markers and Boris). And you're getting dangerously close to your 3000 limit on loved tracks, man. Choose wisely.
